TOOL·5 DAY BUILD·DEC 2025
Field research capture template
A reusable structure for synthesizing interview notes into product actions.
Overview
This tool is a reusable capture and synthesis template that helps turn interview notes into product actions without losing the nuance of what customers actually said.
The problem
Research notes often stall as raw transcripts or scattered quotes. Without a shared structure, insights stay anecdotal and never become backlog-ready decisions.
Approach
I designed a lightweight template around themes, evidence, implications, and recommended actions — then tested it against a few real interview sets to keep it practical.
What I built
A structured capture sheet, synthesis prompts, and an action export format that maps insights to opportunity areas and follow-up experiments.

What I learned
Key takeaway
Research templates earn their keep when they force a path from quote to action — not when they create more fields to fill.
What's next
Add tagging across studies and a simple digest view for sharing findings with engineering and design partners.

I built a branded site and request-to-confirm booking flow for a friend opening a café in Toronto, both to keep him off OpenTable fees before the room was proven and to learn a real stack end to end.
